- Ash (Bruce Campbell)
The third incarnation of our hero. He’s buffed up considerably since he last fought the evil dead and seems to have learned a few things combat-wise. Unfortunately for him, he’s still a bit slow. Ash is captured by Arthur and thrown into the death pit by some very angry townsfolk. Battling the deadites below, Ash emerges victorious (with a little help from the wiseman), and angrily confronts the townspeople and soldiers. Soon after, he falls in love with a woman in the village, Sheila. Ash builds himself a mechanical hand for his stump and is given the task of traveling to a cemetery to read from the Book of the Dead. On his way to the cemetery he is chased by the Evil Dead into a small decrepit windmill where he is attacked by mini versions of himself, one of which manages to jump down his throat. Ash quickly notices that not is all well and sees another head bursting from his shoulder. Panicking, Ash runs outside only to have an evil version of himself rip itself out of his side. Ash shoots the Evil Ash and buries it before traveling to the cemetery. As expected, Ash screws up the reading and causes more evil to be released upon the land. Returning to the village, he can only watch as Sheila is taken away by a flying deadite. Ash stays and fights with the village at the final battle and is forced to kill Sheila, who has been turned evil. Later he wins an impressive sword fight against his evil double and saves the Necronomicon. After winning the battle, he is given a potion to return himself to his own time with only a few simple instructions. Yet again, Ash messes up and returns to his own time with the evil he fought so hard to be rid of.

- S-Mart Clerk (Ted Raimi)
A very skeptical clerk who works with Ash at S-Mart. He listens, annoyed, to Ash reciting his story from memory until a deadite breaks up the conversation.

- Linda (Bridget Fonda)
Linda is shown in Ash’s flashback as he is being dragged through the sand. Linda is attacked by the evil throw a window in this version, much like Shelly was in the first film.

- Arthur (Marcus Gilbert)
The enemy of Henry the Red and his army. Arthur captures Ash along with Henry and his men, holding them captive until Ash’s escape from the pit. Ash lets Henry and his men go, enraging Arthur. He lunges at Ash, only to have his sword blown apart by Ash’s “boomstick”. Frightened, Arthur backs off and later fights alongside both Ash and Henry in the final battle. He fights not because he respects Ash but because he wishes to protect his village.

- Wiseman (Ian Abercrombie)
The wiseman seems to be Arthur’s trusted confidant and adviser. He knows that there is more to Ash than the others can see and aids Ash by throwing his chainsaw down the pit to him. The wiseman is a firm believer that Ash is the one prophesied to end the deadites’ reign of terror and asks Ash to travel to a cemetery to read from the Necronomicon and save the people. Later, when Ash fails to complete this straightforward task, the wiseman angrily comments that he has doomed them all. After the final fight, the wiseman gives Ash a potion to return him to his own time – with a few simple instructions attached.
- Sheila (Embeth Davidtz)
Ash’s love interest in this film. Sheila is a lot like the original Linda in personality and intelligence. At the beginning of the film she is baying for Ash’s blood but she quickly becomes quite smitten with him after his escape from the pit. Sheila is captured by a flying deadite and made herself into a deadite by Evil Ash. When she tricks Ash at the final battle and savagely attacks him, Ash throws her to her death from atop one of the castle walls.

The enemy of Arthur and his army. Henry and his men are captured along with Ash and are held captive until Ash escapes from the pit. Henry is freed by Ash and returns later to aid Ash and Arthur in the final battle against the deadites.

The second person who offers to stand and fight with Ash after Sheila is taken. In a thick accent he bellows out “You can count on my steel” just before a soldier and Gold Tooth join in./li>

- Tiny Ashes (Deke Anderson, Bruce Thomas)
The Tiny Ashes appear after Ash sees himself in the mirror and runs into it breaking it. They come out of the broken glass on the floor and proceed to torment Ash incessantly. They manage to make Ash fall and tie him up, Gulliver’s Travels-style. They force open Ash’s mouth and one of them dives down his throat. Ash breaks free and tries to deal with the tiny Ash he was forced to swallow. The rest manage to escape while the one tiny Ash becomes a catalyst for a greater evil.

- Evil Ash (Bruce Campbell)
Evil Ash is Ash’s evil ego, split off from Ash after his incident with the Tiny Ashes. Ash deals with him with his boomstick and buries him alive.
