Panasonic solid state RQ-706S Reel to Reel tape recorder.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Panasonic-Solid-State-Reel-to-Reel-Tape-Recorder-RQ-706S-/310675882048?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item4855b9c040

I've been wanting to add one to my collection but the recent ones have all been incomplete. Wish I could find one that is complete for once.

If it's just the tape that's missing would you be able to buy more and complete it that way?:

General Discussion / Re: Kudos to Evil Dead remake for no CGI!
« on: May 25, 2013, 01:10:34 PM »
Welcome! although I did love the practical work in the film, It did have some CGI, the girl on fire at the beginning wasn't a practical effect.

Yep, which is why I chuckled when I could tell from the trailer alone and all this boasting no CGI seemed to me just a ploy to fill in seats in the theater. They could have said very little CGI but I guess boasting that there was none sounded better for marketing.

True enough about the marketing sell, though I'd still rather see a CG burning person than a bad 80's chunky firesuit stunt guy shot. That shot in Carpenter's The Thing (and I have to bring that movie up again as the practical F/X movie that all other practical F/X films should still be judged by), burning guy that looked like and still looks like, well, someone in a fire retardant suit waving their arms about a bit. The only fake looking effect in the whole movie.

I think elemental CGI is awesome and a welcome addition to cinematography .... CG fire, forests, tornados etc are on a par if not superceeding the work of the great mat artists like Albert Whitman ( his static glass paintings for Hitchcock on The Birds, Marnie etc and later his work on The Thing are seemless still to this day) .... other than that, when exectuted properly by the people at the top of their game, close up physical F/X, make-ups and props etc almost always still look better shot 'in camera'. CG close-up make-ups still look fake because it's hard to trick the human eye to things we've all seen in real life ... blood, bruises and wounds. The danger with CG in close up work is that it's typicaly limited to what the machine can do instead of being limited to the imagination of the artist so can become derivative if abused ..

Nice Evil Dead Ad ( <- sounds good lol) in Portugal

EVIL DEAD: NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD  :laughing

http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3233651/radnom-cool-portugal-wins-with-this-incredible-evil-dead-print-ad/

I think it's clever but also going a bit 'too far' if that's a real and current obituary page ... shit .. I'm getting old lol! .. in about '90 me and a friend took wax rubbings from the oldest grave stones in a cemetary in Nuneaton, produced some silk screen printed T-Shirts of them then called the local newspaper pretending to be outraged that a local independant shop was selling them. Of course we set the whole thing up with the agreement of the shop owner in advance and made about £600 profit give or take. We called our fake company Grave Creations.

Skip to 01:25 to get a fan singing a cover version of Mia's 'baby little baby' song ... or you could watch it all if you also enjoy watching a teenager moaning about her parents and her bedroom? ..... 01:25 it is then ... :

Thanks gang. Phase 2 is doing roughly the same thing at my local supermarket on/before DVD/BluRay release date .... they usually have standees etc and I'm friendly with a lot of them. I just have to work out when the UK home release date is now.

The extremes I enjoy going to for freebies  :bigsmile :

1. 3 months ago ... start pestering your local tiny cinema to show Evil Dead and get told it's not going to happen. Chat outside with the guy who works there that you know on his ciggarete break who can't change things ..

2. Keep doing it anyway at sporadic times

3. The week before official UK release (because it's just hit number 1 at the U.S. box office) re-check the free flyers .. it's on the flyers!! .. steal a large wad of the flyers to send to people in future. White flyers are this week. Walk into cinema. Guy who can't change anything grins at me before I say anything and says "I know, I just saw!". Introduced to Manager. He's happy to reserve poster for me  :bigsmile

4. Watch the movie for the second time at that cinema.

5. Grab a cardboard tube out of the skip behind the carpet shop around the corner and cut it to size, hide it somewhere nearby and await your poster. Also grab the new flyers from the cinema that are blue.

6. Wonder who threw away your stashed cardboard tube. Go back into cinema with winning smile to be told by assistant manager to come back in two weeks in case Evil Dead gets a replay. Decide to be polite but ignore her advice to get poster.

7. Go back in early afternoon after the previous and final night's showing to find, in perfect timing, manager number 1 changing the A4 poster that also lists Evil Dead .. tell him "If you're throwing that away can I have that?" .. A4 poster secured  :cool ... then he walked me into the building where I spotted assistant manager with her back to me ... gasp! ... so I pretended to study an iron man 3 or some such crap type of poster so I wasn't spotted and blocked.

8. Poster + secured  :cool

I keep mine un-opened ... the packaging itself is part of the whole thing to me + I'd feel a bit embaressed playing with them ..... to contradict myself though, I broke and took out my Sideshow S-Mart Ash and had him displayed for a while a few years back in a flat I shared. It got filthy so I actually hand washed 'his' clothes, washed 'him' and he's back in the box now. I took my NECA bobble head Ash out of the box once then put him staight back in. The box is battered so I probably shouldn't worry so much  :) ..
